Work Permits and Work Experience

WORK PERMITS
Every student under the age of 18 (even if it's one day until their birthday) is required, by state and federal law, to have a work permit. Students may print a paper application here (link below) or pick one up at the OHS or the KMA Front Office.
***Winter and Summer Breaks*** If you need to pick up a Work Permit or need a Work Permit processed before winter or summer break, please do so BEFORE the last day on campus in the CCC. If you need to obtain a Work Permit over break, the District office will be issuing them. During holidays and breaks please contact Ana Santana with Work Permit inquiries: [email protected]

Step 1 - MANDATORY Work Permit Request Form and Signed Contract Letter:
  1. The request form must be completed by the minor and the employer and signed by the minor's parent or guardian. This form is not a work permit! After this is complete, you may email the completed application to [email protected] or [email protected] with a file or a photo. (Remember, you can use DocHub.com to edit PDF documents. Simply create a free account and upload the PDF to start editing, this makes for simple and neat forms).
  2. You also need to sign and date the Contract Letter, which indicates your compliance to adhere to grading and attendance requirements of your work permit.

  • Step 2 - Processing:
  • Send the completed application form AND signed contract letter to [email protected] or [email protected]. ALL information, including the student's social security number and parent signature, MUST be completed to process. Processing, in most cases, can be done within 72 business hours. (This is due to verifying employer info and/or confirmation with Dr. Cleave). Work permits cannot be processed over the weekends or during  holidays.

Step 3 - Work Permit Issued:
  • This Official Permit document is primarily filled out by the School or District Office, the only area you, the student, will need to fill complete is the "Minor Signature."
  • Permit with be available for pick-up at the Front Office or emailed to the student and his/her parents/guardians.
    • Work Permits are probationary and will be reviewed on a monthly basis for grades and attendance. Students are required to be in good academic standing, having discipline and attendance records signed off by administration

UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS:
If you are an undocumented student and you are wondering how you can work and pay taxes without a Social Security Number, please read on.
  • Apply for a Social Security Number with this Social Security Number Application Form.
  • If you are ineligible to acquire a Social Security Number, but you have been hired to work and you still need to file taxes, you can request an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or ITIN, so that you can legally file tax returns and claim the income reported on your W-2’s to the IRS!
